In Jaycees news, a lot of great things have happened already this year! Share your excitement with me as you review our last 7 weeks of accomplishments (pictures at www.facebook.com/stpauljaycees):

  • January:
    • Jaycee Gala: We said thanks and good-bye to our infamous 2011 board and welcomed our 2012 board.
    • Red Bull Crushed Ice Event: Held our first fundraiser of the year with a $550 profit to our general fund!
    • Jaycee-of-the-Month: We selected Amy Bicek-Skog for all of her hard work and dedication for the Children’s Holiday Celebration. Details: http://www.facebook.com/stpauljaycees#!/notes/saint-paul-jaycees/januarys-jaycee-of-the-month/10150585565934146
    • Minnesota Jaycees Annual Convention: We experienced training, awards, and networked with Jaycees members throughout Minnesota.
  • February (up to Feb. 20th):
    • Multi-organizational Gathering (University Club): Partnered with Rotary and Rotaract to hold an event, which gave us a better understanding of the similarities/differences in our organizations. Brought in > 30 people!
    • Thursday Social (Chatterbox): Our first social of the year brought in 15 people! It was entertaining to watch Sam and Rebecca playing a mean game of Connect 4!
    • Bockfest: Conducted our 2nd fundraiser of the year. All attendees were very anxious to eat breakfast (Happy Gnome), chat with others, and jump on the party bus to New Ulm.

I personally think that the fun is only just beginning this year! We have many great things in store yet this spring, such as community events (Best 100, Ballroom Magic, Pitch-Hit-Run), socials, and CITYPAGES Wine Tasting. If it weren’t for you, we couldn’t hold all of these amazing projects, so please help us and sign up to volunteer your time. I’d greatly appreciate your help… really!

  • What: This Spring event features more than 200 wines, including some of the best domestic and imported wines available at metro area MGM locations! The event also provides live music and light appetizers.

    The Saint Paul Jaycees offers to work this event in exchange for funds that we can place back into events to benefit the community! It’s a great cause. We need 40 volunteers to help us this Spring! As a volunteer, you’ll be enjoying the music and talking with attendees as you help with coat-check, the wine-wall, and assist wine vendors with pouring wine.

We will help them place food donation bags on the door of every South St. Paul residence.  On March 17th, the bags will be picked up and donated to a select food shelter. What an awesome day and way to help the community in need!

Event #2: Art Judging

  • What: You have the opportunity to view and organize the art pieces by high school. Then you get to show-off your “Vanna White” showcasing skills by taking a piece of artwork to our 3 judges (without giving the identity away of the student/school), showing off the piece, and then the judges make their selection. It’s a fun time! Lunch and snacks will be provided.

Time sure flies fast, since it feels like we just brought on our new board of directors earlier in January!  With the new year, we have a lot of community, fundraising, and individual development events ahead!  We’re still in the process of making edits to our site, however please check out our “Events Calendar” or www.facebook.com/stpauljaycees to learn about all the fun events coming up like our Multi-organization event with other Saint Paul Organizations, our fun and sassy Third Thursday Social, Bockfest, and a series of Les Farrington Best 100 Art Exhibition events.
